Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation funding programmes

The Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation supports excellent scientists in Germany conducting basic research in biology, chemistry, and medicine during critical stages of their careers.
Our Exploration Grants offer the freedom to investigate intriguing ideas and test new lines of research with minimal bureaucracy, and thus, for example, to conduct the preparatory work necessary for research proposals to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) or the European Research Council (ERC).
The Perspectives Programme Plus 3 offers financial support of up to 900,000 euros over 3 years to develop one‘s scientific profile further and thus achieve a professorship in an optimal research environment.
The programme Rise up! provides seed funding for newly appointed W2 professors of up to 600,000 euros for 3 years. Innovative and potentially transformative research programmes can thus gain traction.

The online application for the funding programmes Exploration Grants, Plus 3 and Rise up! opens four weeks prior to the deadlines on 15 March and 15 September of each year.

Supporting scientific conferences.

International conferences are essential for exchanging new ideas and research findings. They provide junior scientists with excellent opportunities to gain an overview of current issues, methods, and even controversial discussions in their respective fields of research. Further, these conferences offer a platform for presenting their own findings and establishing contacts with leading researchers. The Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation supports this exchange.

The application should be submitted between 8 months and 10 weeks prior to the starting date of the conference.
